Participate 1 - Joining a Digital Learning Community (DLC)

Digital Learning Communities allow educators to connect and network with teachers all over the globe. Here is a link to my Delicious Social Bookmark page of DLC: https://del.icio.us/coachmc/Digital-learning-communities

Below is a video that outlines the advantages of EdChat.net, the DLC that I found most intriguing in my research.  The DLCs that I tagged are most impressive because they have an abundant supply of resources and information that can be searched by content or topic of interest.

What can Digital Citizens do to make the process of joining a DLC more appealing to and easier for students? For students to engage in the process of joining a DLC, teachers as digital citizens need to model the advantages of DLCs to students as well as promote those DLCs that are free to join and don't require student emails.

Participate 1- Character Traits

While researching characteristics associated with exemplary digital citizenship, I found a SlideShare presentation that outlines the Top 3 Character Traits of Exemplary Digital Learning Community Citizens. These 3 traits are worthy of being emulated by all digital citizens to help make the online experience more positive for every user. I exhibit the trait of being Productive by using Scoop.it to curate and share technology integration resources with fellow educators. Being Respectful is practiced often when writing papers. It is most important to cite all sources. I try to be Generous when I learn something new, by making tutorial videos to share with colleagues. Take a look at the slides below, and comment to share what character traits you think are most important.

Blogging for Professional Development

This is my first blog post to satisfy the Georgia Virtual Online teaching course. I have written other blogs in the past, but this one will track my progress as I learn aspects of online teaching and learning. I will also share any interesting technology tools that will help with assessing students and engaging them in the learning process. While viewing some additional resources, I came across Emaze, which is an awesome online presentation tool.  If you like Prezi, you will LOVE Emaze!  Check out this video below to learn more about it.
