What were the three most useful tools or resources resulting from the web walkabout?
I am sharing my experience of a walkabout of web-based sources that make online teaching more engaging, efficient, and effective. Exploring and collecting reputable digital resources takes time, but it is well worth it for online teaching and learning. During my exploration, I discovered many new sources that will help students during online study.
Three most useful resources are:
1. The Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL):https://owl.english.purdue.edu. This website has the most up-to-date writing help and guides users on writing well and citing properly.
2. TED: Ideas Worth Spreading: http://www.ted.com. This site includes talks from TED conferences including a wide variety of topics.
3. Khan Academy https://www.khanacademy.org/ This site contains video tutorials for math, science, test prep, computing, arts & humanities, and economics & finance.
Students can be taught to safely collect tools and resources by examining the sources. When domain names are .org, .edu, .gov, and the like, they are reputable sites for students to obtain information to maximize their learning. To make this possible, students should have exposure to instructional sites such as Common Sense Media, to learn the rules of online etiquette and how to safely collect resources for learning.
